The year 2025 is said to be an inflection point for AI. Yes, AI stands for Artificial Intelligence. AI has been around for a while, in various forms. What made it popular and intriguing to the masses now is we have reached a point where many people are using the 5th Wave of AI, and using it regularly.
Waves of AI? What do you mean by Waves of AI? You might ask …
The evolution of artificial intelligence can be understood through the concept of the “5 Waves of AI,” which outlines its development and diverse applications over time. Here is a closer look at each wave and its significance. Examples are included which will help you better understand its concept and application:
The first wave, Internet AI, centers around using artificial intelligence to gather and analyze user data from the Internet to enhance services and products. The focus here is on personalization and recommendation. For instance, platforms like Netflix use recommendation systems to suggest shows based on your viewing history while Amazon suggests products tailored to your shopping behavior.
Next comes Business AI, which helps organizations optimize their processes and make better decisions by analyzing structured data, such as sales metrics, inventory levels, or customer feedback. Tools like Salesforce leverage AI to predict customer behavior and suggest effective ways to engage with clients, significantly improving customer relationship management.
Perception AI marks a major leap in artificial intelligence by enabling systems to perceive the world using sensors, cameras, and other devices. This wave includes advancements in recognizing images, speech, and other sensory inputs. Examples include facial recognition systems like Face ID on iPhones or AI technologies in self-driving cars that detect pedestrians and traffic signals using cameras.
The fourth wave, Autonomous AI, takes things a step further by allowing machines to act independently in the physical world. These systems often combine insights from Perception AI to make decisions and perform actions without human intervention. Autonomous vehicles, such as Tesla’s self-driving cars and delivery robots deployed by companies like Amazon and Starship Technologies are examples of this transformative technology in action.
The concept of Artificial General Intelligence (AGI) represents the future of AI, where machines can think, learn, and adapt like humans. AI technology is moving so fast and that is why I decided to have this little talk story about it here. Have you been dabbling with this new technology called AI? Are you interested in learning about it? I hope so. We all need to learn about it or at least be familiar with it. This year 2025 is the year to do it.
With love and nostalgia, Liza.
